Everett High School Partners with Stickball for a Hands-On Financial Literacy Fair

Everett High School, part of Everett Public Schools in Massachusetts, is committed to giving students a comprehensive education that prepares them for success — including the practical financial skills too often missing from a traditional curriculum.
The Challenge
Many young adults leave school without the budgeting, saving, and investing know-how they need, leading to long-term consequences like debt and financial insecurity. Everett High School wanted to equip graduating seniors with these skills before they stepped into careers, college, and financial independence — in a way that felt real rather than abstract.
The Stickball Solution
On April 24, 2024, Everett High School and Stickball hosted a dynamic Financial Literacy Fair. Roughly 500 seniors took part in a hands-on financial simulation sponsored by Pizzi Farms, a Waltham landmark since 1933, putting concepts like budgeting, saving, and investing into a real-world context. The event drew strong community and civic support, with appearances from Senator Sal DiDomenico, Rep. Joseph McGonagle, Superintendent Bill Hart, Principal Dennis Lynch, and NFL champion Devin McCourty, a financial-education advocate and Stickball advisor.
The Impact
The fair brought financial literacy to life for an entire senior class and signaled a deeper, ongoing commitment. Stickball continued working with the Everett community through a partnership with Mayor Carlo DeMaria to provide workforce readiness skills to 300 Everett students during summer internships.
I wish I had somebody come to me in 2010 when I got drafted talking about financial literacy... when I was growing up, we didn't have classes for that or tools like Stickball. Take advantage of it.
